by George Gordon, Lord Byron

Written shortly after the marriage of Miss Chaworth

(Composed: 1805)
(From Hours of Idleness - 1807)

    1
  1.   Hills of Annesley, bleak and barren,
  2.      Where my thoughtless childhood stray’d,
  3.   How the northern tempests, warring,
  4.      Howl above thy tufted shade!

    2
  5.   Now no more, the hours beguiling,
  6.      Former favourite haunts I see;
  7.   Now no more my Mary smiling
  8.      Makes ye seem a heaven to me.
